Hotel Therese is housed in an 18th century building in the heart of Paris (in the 1st Arrondisement near the Louvre and the Opera). Its 43 rooms have just been totally renovated in a classic contemporary and very chic style. The linens and pillow are top of the line and they have L'Occitene amenities in the bathrooms.

Rue Thérèse is part of French history: it takes its name from Marie Thérèse of Spain who became the wife of King Louis XIV. Before that time it was called “Fortune street” due to the presence of numerous gambling places in the area. 17th and 18th century mansions with their beautiful free stone frontages reflect the architectural treasures of the area.

Unique Qualities: Every room has a private safe (I know because I had to have the front desk staff help me open it when I forgot my combination), International TV channels, wi-fi access and either new bath or new shower. The rooms are decorated in vanilla/chocolate, light green absinthe or variegated canvas colors.

Continental breakfast is served in the lower lobby which is vaulted like a wine cellar. The cost is 13 € ($18 US). They also offer shuttle service to/from the airport.

The rates for Paris are quite reasonable:

The first time I visited Paris when I was 14, our family stayed at the InterContinental Paris. I remember the bathrooms being the size of my sister's bedroom and I remember using the oversized pedestal bathtub. I thought I had died and gone to heaven!

The hotel is now a Westin- so the beds and amenities have been upgraded. All guest rooms feature satellite TV and Internet access through the television system. Wireless High Speed Internet Access is also available upon request. And the interactive video system (video on demand) allows you to choose from a selection of movies available.

Unique Qualities: Rooms cost between 360 Euro ($495 US) a night.

I came across this hotel as it is the sister to Hotel Therese. It is different from Therese as it is not modern- but decorated like someone's home. It only has 26 rooms- but all have a safe and wi-fi. The location is wonderful. It has an elevator- but you will have to climb up some stairs to get to it.

Unique Qualities: Rooms may be a little smaller than you'd hoped for, but each is painstakingly decorated. The white-cotton quilts on the beds, framed pressed flowers on the walls. The hall and lobby are decorated with faux-marble trompe-l'oeil trim work and stained-glass windows. Fans of Serge Gainsbourg can pilgrimage to his former home directly across the street. Only some of the rooms have AC.

The rates are very reasonable:
