Maribor Things to Do Tips by bonio

Cable car

An exciting 20 minute ride up the mountain to the ski resort of Maribor Pohorje. Lots to do up there in summer too, but concentrating on the ride here. Four person gondolas run pretty much all day it seems, although the time table suggests hourly only in summer, they were operating contiuously when we visited.

Cost for a return trip was 7 Euros (July 2007)

Directions: Bus #6 runs from the rail station. The last stop is the cable car.

Maribor Pohorje

In winter a huge ski resort, in summer when we visited a beautiful place for walking, horse riding, enjoying great views back over the city or trying the many other activities on offer. Also plenty of hotels and eating places up here too. Access is by cable car (later tip) if you don't have your own transport.

Directions: Bus #6 runs from the rail station to the cable car. It's the last stop for the bus - about 20 mins.

World's oldest vine?

Alegedly this is it, maybe over 400 years old - on the banks of the river Drava in Maribor - looks old to me I'm not arguing. By the looks of the grapes on it plenty of wine is still produced from it.

Plague monument.

Impressive monument to those who died in the great plague, originally built in the 1680's, after a few changes along the wy, still looks good?

It's a red bridge over the river Drava, take a walk over and enjoy the views of the city from the other side.

Castle

In the city centre and now home to the Maribor Museum. Mostly under renovation when we visited in July '07, just a few photos........

Maribor Museum

It's in the city centre castle and well worth a short visit. (july '07) some parts are under renovation but still plenty to see. Tells the history of Maribor along with interesting displays of weapons.

Three lakes

Connected to the city park, there are three lakes, many entertaining ducks and are they terrapins or turtles? to watch. Lovely place to spend a warm afternoon.

City park

We visited on a warm weekend and spent several hours in the park. There are planty of shady places to keep out of the sun. Also lucky enough to see a band and some dancers.
