When you cross..from the North to the South

by pepples46 - last update: Nov 20, 2005

through Cook Straight

Cook Straight
New Zealand the Country of two Island, actually three..Stewart Island, right at the 'Bottom' of the South Island, always..the forgotten one.but here it is the South Island, and the passage through the Charlotte Sound by Ferry from Wellington to Picton and you arrive at the South Island, affectioned called the MAINLAND
South Islanders feel their Island is more importend, pure NZ, the better slice of the Country.
Well, it's not a bad place to be..actually, a bloody good one!!

the vinyards at Blenheim

you get off the Ferry and drive on State Highway 1 through Marlborough to Blenheim and when you haven't been to the Hawkes Bay, this is your first contact with New Zealand's wine country...and what a great drop it is. take your time to explore and taste a little. cheers
Blenheim's vinyards
Sea Lions

Sealions at Kaikoura

after that the journey start again...if you want or not, you will go through Kaikoura, watching the Whales, maybe, get hassled by the Seals..have a great Lunch on Crayfish at the Crayfish Pott at the Center of Kaikoura.
or just swim in the Pacific Ocean..go to the South Side, there are always some Sealions hanging out...but take care, the bulls are quite territorial.
right across from the beach is a lovely Restaurant too, outsite seating, looking over the Ocean.. enjoy your stay

Pros:"we like it as it is"
Cons:"sandflies"
In A Nutshell:"the Mainland Petrol prices are always a little higher..I wonder why that is too!!"
