The Chaco War between Bolivia and Paraguay started 1932 and ended 1935( I looked it up)at the beginning of the 19th century, Bolivia had build small forts around the Border between the two Countries, then they progress further and further into theChaco and considered, that is now bolivian territory. but..Paraguay had other ideas.. countered with its own forts and settled Mennonites in the area. a full scale war broke out in 1932...the bolivian Force was much stronger, but could not cope with the Chaco, the Humidity and the Heat, the paraguayan soldiers where better adapted and by 1935 the victory was theirs!
if I not had lived and worked in Brasil, I might have never travelled through the Country....and that would have been a great mistake.
Paraguai is underrated by many Travelers and Tourists alike. from the Foz, it is easy to gain entry into the country, but make sure you got a reentry visa to Brasil or Argentina, or the Guards can be a bit 'difficult'
I'd like to suggest, for more updated information, have a look at the other pages here on VT, but don't be surprised when they look and sound not much different. the clocks in Paraguay go still...quite slow
Roof repairs..Reedgras from the Chaco, not an easy task, if he gets it right, the job is well done....if he gets it wrong, all sorts of disaster happen....rainfal is very frequent in this part of the country, and unwelcomed guest from the jungle would wiggle their way through the roof and the house
the Presidential Palace in Asuncion, at the banks of the Paraguay River...building started 1857, War's and Unrest brought everything to a stand still. the Palace finally got finished in 1892. things take a little longer in South America
- Pros:it is still unspoiled from tourism
- Cons:you find out for yourself
- In a nutshell:when in South America, don't make the Mistake not visiting Paraguay

Missed Paraguay!:( Gettin even is touchy with a concierge..but her face fell way low when I said how sorry I was to think I'd gone to the bank to get her $30 tip, all for nothing..She might let me in next time -- if I don't move before!
I wonder how much Paraguay has changed since the 70's? Nice informative page.
The bottle tree looks much like our boab tree found in the Kimberley... the Aboriginals say it was planted upside down because the sparse branches look more like the root system.
Extraordinary page and tips. Thanks!
what a fascinating place to visit, the waterfall looks so lovely, what a shame its no longer there, hope all is good with you XX B
Ahh, Wal - these are real great memories ! You have been lucky to see so many countries from their untouched side. Ahh, and yes, Sete Quedas have been gorgeous before.... Afternoon huggies :-)
Heading to Paraguay in less than 2 weeks - thanks for a taste of what's to come!
They drowned the most beautiful falls in the world?! How sad... but Paraguary still looks very beautiful, though! You have very interesting and informative pages!
