sometimes, when I drive around this area, for no reason at all, tears come to my eyes

Lake Ohau formes the Boundry between Canterbury and Otago. in summer, the place is humming from people of both areas and they go on very well. Rugby season is over, no worries!
in Mythology, the Waitaki River = 'waters of tears' was formed by two brothers as they mourned their sister, who had been drowend at the river mouth.
she had been turned into a rock and the two brothers.... became the Hills near Lake Ohau...look at the intro pic, the two hills right in front of Ben Ohau at the mouth of the Waitaki River

Awesome photos of Ohau - you are lucky living near such a wonderful place.
