this page is more about the Countryside, the surroundings of Novo Hamburgo..which is regarded the Capital of the Region
Vale dos Sinos.
from the Countryside going to Town, we always looked forwards to that, Novo Hamburgo has a great feel about and friends made us always welcome
Santa Maria do Herval
Population 220 000 on an Area of 217km.First Immigrants arrived from Germany 1824
Novo Hamburgo is the Maincenter for Shoes. 80% goes into Export. Being situated on a main route BR 116, Novo Hamburgo has all infrastructure in place.
40km north of Porto Alegre and 1500km south of Rio de Janeiro.
yep it is a long stretch by Bus on the Road, but of course you can fly into P.A. and have connection by car or Bus. Renting a Car or 4X4 won't break your Bank Account. all mayor Rentelcars are situated at the Airport in P.A.
Mayor Creditcards are accepted and Travelercheques are very welcome.
a little portugues or spanish takes you long way. or just polish of your german..many people speak in this part of Brazil.
When one is already travelling Uruguay or Argentina, take a sidetrip to Rio Grande do Sul..it is worthwhile!!
- In a nutshell:more than just a pretty place, it has been my home away from home

Uma linda página ! Ooops: Und nachtraeglich noch ein "Feliz aniversário pra você!!! Parabéns Wal !
This page only goes to show me how much I missed during our short 2-week trip to South America! As you say, it is amazing how those first European settlers managed to 'tame' the land! Great photos and tips Waltraud!
No hamburgers when you were there? :-) The immigrants sure had it hard. Rio Grande do Sul is as big as Tex'us? wow. Even Rodeos :-) Great experience Wal... great memories.
Yep , I for sure recogniz something german in those house. A beautiful area they chose for setteling. great page.
Wal, I don't know why... but I have the strange feeling you might be a little homesick of Novo Hamburgo tonight... LOL something you heard perhaps ? ... c'mon... I'm not that bad, am I ???? hehehehe
Your passion for a place where you once lived is evident. Dois Iraos is great. Photo of Harmonia Lake is awesome. Found your local customs very interesting. Wonderful stuff!
those swimming holes look a little violent!! beautiful countryside, Wal.
