the early Jesuit Mission has been quite an achievment of good will, the Jesuit where genuinely interested in the well being and welfare of the indigenous people, even made great efforts to support self governing settlements, christianisation of the Indians the main insentiv.
the main sources of trade and activities where cattle, erva mate, spinning, weaving and pottery.
today Sao Miguel is a World Heritage site.

the Mission II

the astonishing Architecture and the preservation of it, is worth a visit.
like the Missions in Trinidade/Paraguay or San Ignazio Mini in Argentina..the Mission in Santo Angelo is the third of its kind.
in all of the Missions, around 150 000 indigenous people lived and worked in self-governing settlements.
