SCHLOSS HERRENCHIEMSEE.....a Residence for 9 days

by pepples46 - last update: Dec 13, 2004

Schloss Herrenchiemsee
Schloss Herrenchiemsee is the biggest Castle or Palace built after the plans of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. with this Project, costing 16mill Goldmark, he nearly bankrupted his Staat and made a lot of People very nervoes.
Ludwig secretly admired Louis XIV and his Versailles, so Ludwig decides Herrenchiemsee should be the exact replica of the french Palace and the Garden. He ran out of funds and lived only 9 days in Herrenchiemsee.
the Palace is situated around 60km from Munich on a beautiful Island in the Lake Chiemsee, die Herreninsel
the dashing, young King Ludwig II

Must visit this one day - matter of fact, I have never been in one of The Ludwig castles yet, isn't this a shame ? Hihi, maybe they are too popular :-)
