Hotel Kabul Intercontinental: The big hotel in town

A 200 room hotel, and should be finishing with the rennovations now. Its not part of the Intercontinental group of hotels, though it used to be many years ago. Its now run by the government. At an aveage room rent of $100 per night, i`d say its not your cheapest option.
Unique Qualities: Nice view from atop a hill, has a pool too, am not sure if i remember seeing water in there though. But this was on my first trip in 2002, so things may have changed... This is the hotel for many international conferences, sometimes home to journalists, Afghan government ministers.

On my last trip, in April 2006, we were shooting a film for the world bank, and therefore, we were put up in their guesthouse, in the wazir akbar khan area... Our rooms had cable tv/ satellite tv, which beamed some 500 channels from around the world, which was pretty crazy. A common dining- drawing room area, and a cook, who would cook indian, continental etc, and some great desserts.

SuzanneWheeler Wed Feb 4, 2009 23:12 UTC ate many times at the Thai Restuarant 2004. Was a wonderful surprise. I am trying to find an old friend. Can you help me. His name is Marshall Perry. It was told to me he purchased one of the fine older Russian homes there in Kabul. Please reply. | DrAli Tue Nov 14, 2006 22:55 UTC The reasons they're all Toyotas (taxis): Pakistan has Toyota factories giving cheap access to spare parts. Most cars stolen in Pak end up in Af. Toyotas have a reputation for being tough as nails. | Siddha3th Wed May 17, 2006 07:42 UTC From the 'graveyard of tanks', to the broken down palace at Istalif, to the naughty Afghan kids... just fascinating pages. So nice to come across something as intriguing and vital as this on VT. So long Husain... Siddharth. P.S. - could we swap jobs? :-) | Nourin Tue Apr 25, 2006 12:16 UTC Thanx for the reminder... :-) |
