Just got back from a trip to the hills, from a place called Jwalabanj, which is not far from Panuanaula (near Almora). It isnt on the map, so quite off the beaten path. Its run by a local guy- and its very basic accomodation- no power or running water, and we used to go down to a stream with a little waterfall to bathe. That apart, its spotless clean and we didnt really miss much of our urban existance. The views from the hill-top, which is a short trek up, are breathtaking. Attaching a picture. Most of the mountains in the background are 7,000 meters plus. You can see two of the prominent peaks of the Kumaon Himalayas in the background- Trishul (which is partly obscured by clouds), and Nanda Devi, in the right hand corner, which is almost 8,000 meters tall. We were standing at about 8,000 feet. Back in Delhi now. Damn. |
