Philadelphia is a history buff's dream -- and "must see" for all Americans. Independence Park, called "the most historic square milein the most historic city," is compact, walkable, and full of very well done history tours and exhibits. The Constitution Center, which opened July 4, 2003, is a wonder of modern museum exhibits. |
| | Resting Place of Founders The old city is dotted with historic churches, each with its own fascinating graveyard. Many famous figures of American history are buried in the city -- including Benjamin Franklin, whose grave you see here. People throw coins onto it. |
Vibrant, Active City This is the then-brand-new stadium, home to the Philadelphia Eagles (American) football team. In August, 2003 the stadium was inaugurated with *proper* football -- Manchester United v. Barcelona. It was my husband's birthday, so we went all-out, getting tickets to the practices the day before the match as well as to the match itself. At only three hours from our home in Northern Virginia, it made a great weekend escape.
