Last month (October, 2002) I headed to the mountains of northwest North Carolina with a friend of mine and her son (who turned 1 the day I arrived!). My friend's dad lives in West Jefferson, NC and we stayed with him and his wife. We started with a small but frosting-intensive first birthday bash, followed by a day trip along some of the Blue Ridge Parkway to Chimney Rock. It was great to get away from the SniperStress for a few days!

Three Generations

Our day trip south along the Blue Ridge Parkway to Chimney Rock was scenic and fun. The amount of color among the forests was very different from West Jefferson (where we began and where things were fairly far along), along the Parkway (at peak in many places and just gorgeous), to Chimney Rock (where there were still quite a few green leaves). Pros and Cons

Pros:Mountains, bbq, fresh air
Cons:Six hour drive away
In a nutshell:Looking forward to Fall color!
