Despite not really living here until I was 16, Brisbane is home now for me. As much as anywhere is/can be, anyway, what with most of my extended family living here and my sister and one of my brothers also in town. It's a beautiful, restful place - after living in London for a year, my sister described driving in Brisbane as "like starring in Driving Miss Daisy... everything moves so SLOWLY"! The mountains around Brisbane are stunning, mostly Crown land at the Western edge of the City, so very undeveloped, with excellent vantage points/views from many many spots along the steep, windy roads. There's something surreal about driving Mt Nebo on a warm spring afternoon, with the long low shadows sweeping hypnotically across the road, deceptively hiding those deep, sweet corners that let the centrifugal force pull the car in and in and then slingshot it out...
