I have yet to decide if this hotel reminds me of Dr. Seuss, Alice in Wonderland, or a doped-up hallucination. This is definitely not your ordinary run-of-the-mill hotel. It's fun and perfect for children or people with pets, but not terribly conducive to business travellers.
Unique Qualities: It's merely blocks from Union Square and Chinatown. For the over-active occupant they have a 24-hour gym, so at three in the morning you can lift some weights, if you so desire. If you don't like physical exercise, but adore art... well, they've though of you too. Feel free to wander around their local art gallery or eat a freshly, home baked cookie. Oh, they claim to have nightly tarot readings. When I was there I saw no sign of them, but it would be very cool if they did that.

This is a rather average hotel with the regular amenities... minbar, concierge, airport shuttle, exercise room, room service, etc. They also have two restaurants/ coffee bars and even a club. But what really sets this hotel apart from the others is it's history. Built in 1928 the Drake still retains that old time charm, forever captured in the style of the time.
Unique Qualities: The Sir Francis Drake Hotel is a landmark that I often use with my friends (e.g. 'let's meet in Caffe Espresso in the Drake hotel at six'). It is so convenient, just blocks from Chinatown, Nob Hill, Moscone, SOMA, and the theatre and financial districts.
