We are multi faithed with all sorts of religeous beliefs held in the country. According to a 1991 census, the religeous belief was spread as follows: -
Anglican 27 million, Roman Catholic 9 million, Muslim 1 million, Presbyterian 800,000, Methodist 760,000, Sikh 400,000, Hindu 350,000, Jewish 300,000. I would think that some of the lower figures would have increased due to the large influx of immigrants that we are now taking in to the country.
The United Kingdom lies only 35 km (20 miles) from France at the nearest point and is now linked by tunnel under the English Channel. Because of heavily indented coastline, no area of the United Kingdom is more than 125km (80 miles) from tidal waters.
The population of these sceptre isles is somewhere in the region of 60 million. |
