In Polish, the letter “w” is pronounced as a “v”. This becomes important when you talk about the people of Warsaw as they are collectively known as “Varsovians”. The same came be said of the inhabitants of Cracow, they would be know as Cracovians. There is a twist with the letter “c” as the Poles replace it with a “k” so although I have stated correctly the English spelling of Cracow, yes, you’ve guessed it, you may see it spelt as Krakow and the people are known collectively as Krakovians. I like Crakow, there is plenty to do and see in around the pedestrian only city centre; you can read about some of these things in my general tips. However, the really great place to visit is the Royal Salt Mines, which is 10km outside of Crakow, the details of which can be found in my "Off the beaten path" tips. |

magor65 Wed Sep 21, 2005 21:47 UTC I'm impressed by the quality of pictures and your knowledge of the facts. Well done! | deecat Sun Mar 7, 2004 21:33 UTC I like the fact that the city center is off limits to traffic. Hotel Campanile looks perfect. Salt mines are quite interesting and local crafts do too. Wonderful pages. Super photographs. | Paul2001 Mon Jun 16, 2003 20:21 UTC Excellent page on one of my favourite cities. Your photos of St Mary's are great. | RachelMcD Fri Feb 21, 2003 17:43 UTC You have taken some great pictures of the Salt Mine. |
