Hermanus Bay | Hermanus Bay, South Africa |
Hermanus Bay is THE place to see whales from the shoreline. They arrive between July and November to frolic and mate within full view of the cliffs and beach line. At times, there could be anything up to 100 whales and calves in the bay.
Whales are the main attraction here but another interesting fact is that Hermanus is one of the oldest villages in the area. People must have been attacted to this area by the whales for a long time because in 1920, there were no less than 16 hotels, so tourism has a major impact on the area. |
| | Although whales can be spotted right up to November, the best time is August/September so we only got a couple of glimpses of the elsive beasts, when we were there at the end of October. |
