I was born in Kuopio. We moved away when I was just one year old but I spent many summers in Kuopio as a child with my grandparents and in our summer-cottage in Kallavesi.
I have very dear memories of Kuopio from that time.
Kuopio has less than 100 000 inhabitant, so there's not so much going on all the time, but the city has a very regerded univercity, so at least there's some young people keeping it going:)
The most important sight to see in Kuopio is the Market Place. It has always had a very special feeling in it. And it doesn't cost a penny...unless you end up buying something.
The best way to see the town is to clime to Puijon Torni (see the picture above).
There's also some very nice museums in Kuopio and ofcource the Kallavesi-lake is a beautiful enviroment to visit in itself.
Kuopio-people are very proud of their town, they have a dialect that even Finns don't sometimes understand and a strange sence of humour. So if you have some time to spend in Finland, Kuopio might be a place to visit and learn more about us Finns.
