    Joshua Tree: a forest of cactus

  • Joshua trees are found throughout the Mojave desert but they tend to be solitary plants elsewhere. Joshua park is unusual for its "forests" of Joshua trees.

  • Joshua tree national park also has the remains of a couple of old mines. Shown is an old abandoned structure that was part of the Queen Valley mine.

  • The remains of the Queen valley mine are a short hike off of a dirt road that leads from the main park road. Follow the signs for directions.

    Skull Rock: Skull Rock

  • This rock vaguely resembles a human skull. it's right off the main road in the jumbo rocks area.

  • it doesn't happen often but when you get an unsually wet winter such as happened this year the normally brown desert comes alive in color.

    Cacti: Cholla Cactus garden
  • Tip Rating:
  • The southeast portion of the park is at a lower elevation than the northwest and is therefore hotter and drier. Here the Joshua tree's give way to other desert plants such as this concentration of Cholla plants

     Have a nice time in Austalia and New Zealand . We visited both a couple of years ago...fabulous trip. Love the picture of Scull Rock...looks like an lalien !!lol
