Vatican City

by Jim_Eliason - last update: Nov 25, 2005

The Vatican is the world's smallest sovereing state and came when Mussolini ceded the area to the Pope. It consist primarily of the St. Peter's, the Piazza St. Peter, the Vaticana museums and a series of adminstrative and living quarters.

The Vatican is very popular, I made the mistake of thinking it would help to get there early and get in line for the Vatican Museum. ! hr before opening the line was longer than a 1mile. I watied till after lunch and the line was shorter. The secret here is that the tours bus try to get in first thing in the morning.

My 2nd cousin was a translator here for a number of years but I have yet to visit. Hoping my husband brings me here for my 50th birthday next year.
