I did not get to spend much time in Johannesburg mostly a drive through tour of SOWETO
- Pros:South Africa's Largest and most cosmopolitan city
- Cons:Unfortunately the crime rate has gotten so high that most tours avoid Jo' Burg

We skipped touring Jo'burg when we were in South Africa in 2009. They were having demonstrations throughout the city, so we weren't sure about safety. Looks like we missed a few interesting sights.
Interesting Johannesburg page with lovely photographs! Thanks for sharing. We hope to visit Johannesburg one day. ~ho & pang
i love johannesburg because my husband leave there there airport is very nice
Thanks for the tour of Soweto. I was hoping for more of Jo'burg.
I lived in Johannesburg until 1992 - its a real pity what has happened in some areas. I don't particularly visit there these days as my family and friends are mainly in the Durban area. Gillybob greetings
Great mini page of Johannesburg. High crime statistic here is kinda a setback I guess for the tourism industry, do you think so Jim? Take care.
Not much change since I was in the area in 1995. I was attending a conference in Sandton, outside Jo'burg and never went into the city once due to the dangers. My wife did take the interesting Soweto tour while I was 'working'!
Thanks for the virtual Soweto tour. I missed it because at the Joburg airport I had to arrange the transport of my lost luggage instead. And yes I got it back one week later in the north of Namibia by a plane landing at a airstrip in the middle of nowhere
not Joburg University, but WITS or Witwatersrand University, has produced many Professional and Academics of International Note, scattered across the globe; it remains a fine academic and research centre ;-)))
Maybe Sandton and rosebank are still islands of fun in this big city, I hope they can save the whole city one day!;)
