Puerto Plata is the main city of the Dominican Republic's North shore. It has 200,000 inhabitants and was once a major export center for tobacco. This period in the late 1800's is what gives Puerto Plata its unique Victorian architecture. Today, the city is the center of the North Coast resort areas.
- Pros:Authentic Dominican culture
- Cons:dirty , noisy and lots of traffic
- In a nutshell:a good way to get out of the beach resorts and see the real DR

that looks like the dominican republic i would like to see. away from the resorts where the locals live.
You got that right: haggle left and right. Another place you might be interested in is Loma Isabel de Torres. Our teleférico (cable railway) will take you up high there and the view is amazing.
So, how much haggling did you do??
Good tips. Victorian style gazebo in Parque Central look very nice, indeed.
