Santo Domingo

by Jim_Eliason - last update: Nov 30, 2008

Established in 1496 by Bartolome Columbus, Christopher's brother, this is the oldest European founded city in the New World. It was ruled first by Bartolome then later by Christopher Columbus' son, Diego. It has a fairly well preserved colonial district without the overun commercialism of a San Juan PR. It also has many of the country's other tourist attractions and museums. Unfortunatley, I only spent a day here so here are some highlights of the city.

I really enjoyed reading and seeing your Santo Domingo pages. Outstanding photographs. I learned a great deal, which, as a teacher, I always appreciate.

The way I see it, you must not see it all down there otherwise you won't have something to look forward to on your next visit :D I love your pictures. Greetings.
