Santo Domingo

by Jim_Eliason - last update: Jan 30, 2007

Established in 1496 by Bartolome Columbus, Christophers brother, this is the oldest European founded city in the New World. It was ruled first by Bartolome then later by Christopher Columbus son, Diego. It has a farily well preserved colonial district without the overun commercialism of a San Juan PR. It also has many of the countries other main tourist attractions and museums. Unfortunatley I only spent a day here so here are some highlights of the city.

Pros:"Very historic city"
Cons:"Not much tourist infostructure"
In A Nutshell:"A must see Carribean destination."

The way I see it, you must not see it all down there otherwise you won't have something to look forward to on your next visit :D I love your pictures. Greetings.

Seems an interesting place to visit and Parque de las tres Ojos must be really amazing!

Good overview, too bad that many tourists don't go out of the resorts and see the beautiful Zona Colonial. Alcazar is my favourite too. Didn't see Faro de Colon, though, next time maybe..

Thank you for visiting my Flores Guatemala page. On this snowy day, I enjoyed your photos and recollections from Saint Domingue a lot.
