Warnings Or Dangers: School Leavers Week!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • There is a 1 - 3 week span that you shouldn't travel down South or to Rottnest Island. This would be because of 'leavers' or 'scholies'. It is the celebrations for all school leavers across W.A who have completed year 12. For a week they venture to these areas and last year being a leaver myself i can assure you that if you are wanting a relaxing holiday or you can't stand groups of youths. STAY AWAY. It is only one week but you get the odd group who stays for 2. I've forgotten the date but it is once exams are over in November (last week of Nov) . It isn't dangerous but put it this way we stay out to all hours of the day and night and make a huge amount of noise anywhere we would go. Remember it is the whole of W.A students and that is alot. Hot spots are Rottnest island, Dunsborough and margaret river.

  • When driving either down south or north away from the city please be carefull of our wild life. They hava strange tendancy of heading towards your car lights espicially at dark, dusk and dawn. It would be wise not to be driving at this time anyway.

Kangaroos are a real danger that can absolutely demolish your car and even cause a serious accident.

It nearly happen to us near Pemberton.

    Sharks: Sharks
  • Tip Rating:
  • I have decided to put this warning on due to the recent events over the past three years.

There are an increase in shark numbers and they do come closer to the shores now, with many attacks happening not far from the shore. These attacks have been fatal and happen on young people.

I live in Perth and have swam at the beach forever however now it is best to take precautions just in case. Coming from a local you would be stupid if you didn't.

I never swim deep anymore and often swim at beaches with other people and where there are safety patrols. Try not to swim around dusk and dawn. Try not to swim in places where commercial fishing occurs or where there may have been a beached whale.

There is so much ocean out there and of cause we will mix with the life in the ocean which = sharks so it is best to respect this.

    Sharks: Sharks In The River
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • I say an article today in the paper on the sharks in the swan river - appartently they have always been present in the river - which is a shock to me!!!

Bull sharks can survive in the fresh water and they often come into the swan due to the amount of food available. They rarely attack as they are well fed!

Bull sharks are agressive sharks. Fisherman along the river always come in contact with them and have often caught them on their lines.

Since 1900 there are been six attacks in the swan river - one being fatal. The last one was in the 1970's.

In saying this i have never seen one! But still it is good to know these things!!!

    Warnings Or Dangers: The Ocean
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • It happens every year, someone is injured or killed by stupidly standing on dangerous slippery rocks towards the southern region of Perth. All it takes is one big wave to wash you away. Be aware of your surroundings, big waves look so beautiful but they can be unpredicatable mainly in the winter time!
