Perth Off The Beaten Path
Sort by: Most Recent | Best Rated | Author's Order

Off The Beaten Path: Yallingup
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Located DOWN SOUTH 15 minutes from Dunsborough Yallinup is worth a stay if you wish to be close to the big waves in a classic surf town with the small town shop. It is a hilly place and be sure to secure a house that is on the hill as it will provide 180 degree views of the beach!!!

We went down Easter 2006 - this year hired a house high up on the hill. The weather was warm and it was a great break!

    The beach is amazing!

    Pemberton: Pemberton's Steam Train
  • Tip Rating:
  • TAKE A DRIVING COURSE for a steam train - operated in Pemberton you can learn to become a steam train driver. It's something interesting and different and it doesn't require courage.

  • Waroona - located in the hills, beautiful views. It is beautiful in Winter. Every thing is so green and dwey. This is where we horse rode. within an hour a storm broke, lighting and thunder started and the rain poured. It was so much fun and an experience i would love to relive. Although the horses do get a bit scared.

Off The Beaten Path: The Old Power Station
  • Tip Rating:
  • TAKE A WALK PAST THE OLD POWERSTATION - This is not a tourist attraction mainly because it is located in the suburbs. But is very close to fremantle. There is a walk pathway from South Beach in fremantle that takes you along the beaches untill coggee beach. it is a quiet and realxing way to see the beautiful coastline of the southern beaches. on the way to Coogee beach you will pass the abadoned powerstation which for some reason still hasn't been demolished. if you go close enough to it you can see the tunnels that go underneath it. It's one of w.a's tragic past of having such a powerstation along the coast.

Off The Beaten Path: Spend a few hours in Harvey
  • Tip Rating:
  • I was fortunate to stay at a friends farms. This town is in the South West and is great for picnics. Harvey has quite a few dams to see, some are in development.

    Dunsborough: Sugarloaf Rock, Dunsborough
  • Tip Rating:
  • Who would of thought that one rock could be so beautiful.

Located near Cape Naturaliste in Dunsborough. Take Sugarloaf rd and it takes you straight to the rugged coastline that you definately will not find in PERTH. Or you can take a walking trail from Cape Naturaliste.

The coast itself was unbelievable, quite a lot of people go to cape naturaliste to see the giant waves and foamy water, but at sugar loaf you get a closer viewing which is just as safe. And its all free.

If visiting in winter like i did, be careful of the winds, we went to the viewing platform and the winds were soooo strong that taking a steady photo was an effort.

  • beautiful.

  • Is absolutely beautiful, it is a newly developed area which is more accessible then a few years back. Surfers are attracted to this area. The coastline and surroundings are virtually untouched.
