Weather & Climate: Humid and hot
  • Tip Rating:
  • It is very hot and sticky in Kuala Lumpur.

Luckily the shopping centres and even some of the street vendors have icy cold aircon - the best aircon i have ever experienced.

Travelling must still go on and i recommend that you have a bottle of water with you at all times. You will be amazed at how fast you can go through that bottle.

The city does go on at night so stay inside during the hot hours and venture outside early morning and at night.

As it was my first time in kl we were out for most of the day, coming from australia it was bearable the weather.

    Dress: What not to wear
  • Tip Rating:
  • Girls try not to wear short skirts and tiny tops.

The best thing to wear is t.shirts or singlets with thick straps & shorts, skirts, 3/4's.

You wont get into trouble or anything it is just something that the people do not wear.

    Bartering: Bartering
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • When at Petaling street on the last day of our visit i felt guilt for batering too low.

When you ask to pay 30.00 aust instead of 40.00 aust and they say they will not make any money and will lose money you tend to feel guilty. whats ten dollars? honestly.

This is their life and although we can come and go they will be their working hard to make a living.

At the same time dont be tricked to pay too high........some busy nights that would have many tourists that would come through.

I just thought well i had been there twice already and on my last visit for the holiday i would go easy.

    Local Customs: Smoking
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Smoking is allowed everywhere in Malaysia including the hotel rooms. Always insist on a non smoking room if this is important to you.

Hi Leanne, We are stopping in KL next year on the way back from Thailand with the kids. would it be advisable to walk around night markets with kids? Is it better to stay in large shopping centres?
