I should probably mention here that pickpockets in Paris are professionals. Keep your eyes on your bags at all times, and do not keep your passport and money in the outside pocket of your bag, as I did (cause I'm that smart). I ended up spending an entire day of my vacation filing a police report for the $600 and passport that was stolen from my bag while it was on my shoulder! What I was upset about most was my passport, with all those stamps that us travellers cherish so much. Fortunately though, the U.S. Embassy in Paris deals with thousands of stolen passports a year, so I was able to get a new one issued within hours! There was a girl in the embassy that had had her entire suitcase stolen, with every roll of film and souvenir from her entire European trip in it. She was returning home the next day :(
