I've just come down from the legendary Pilatus mountain. Hope your sitting comfortably and ready to read a story.....
This mountain just above Lucerne was called Fracmont until the 14 century when it then took on the name of Pilatus as it is rumoured that he is buried there.
It is told that every year at noon on good friday Pilatus would rise from the lake and solemly wash his hands before sinking back down and any one who saw him would die within the year. There were also fearsome storms and hail reported. Most people were scared to climb. Luckily around the end of the 15th century a spanish scholar or palestinian Rosicrucian, depending on which legend you believe exorcised the ghost. After 36 hrs of battle they came to an agreemant that Pilatus would be able to roam freely through the mountains on Fridays. Unfortunately many tourists and thrill seekers specifically went there on fridays to catch a glimpse of the ghost, most dying or becoming ill within a year. In 1585 pastor of Lucerne, John Müller threw a boulder into the lake and aparently removed the ghost.
Then comes legend No. 2.....
In 1649 comes the first recording of a dragon being sighted in a cave on Pilatus! And it is said today that if you feel the wind caused by dragons wings wishing past you be happy, feel lucky they bring healing powers.....
