I have opportunities to visit Egypt twice (May 1999 and July 2000). On my 1st trip, I visited Cairo and Luxor.
The Cairo of the Arabian Nights has so rich of sights, sounds, smells, atmosphere and its people. There are many things to do and see in Cairo, such as some of the amazing mosques and madrassas (Islamic schools). Around Cairo lie the vast squatted cemeteries known as the City of the Dead. Older areas of Cairo, notably Coptic Cairo, lie to the south, but the most incredible sights of all lie across the river. Take your time there since the weather is mostly hot throughout the year. The best time with pleasant weather for visiting Cairo is during the January timeframe.
