"Jonesboro, Gone with the Wind" Jonesboro by cvilla007

Jonesboro - population 4000. Most of my childhood was spent down the road from this tiny city on the southside of Atlanta. Not many people have heard of Jonesboro, Georgia. But it was the inspired setting for the fictional Tara, in Margaret Mitchell's "Gone with the Wind," an old book & movie about the Civil War era. Tara never existed, but there are still some old mansions here, the kind that tourists look for when they come to Atlanta.

Well, there's really not much to do here. The area has changed dramatically & will continue to do so since it is so close to Atlanta (only about 10 miles away). But Jonesboro still has some small-town charm if you dismiss the traffic, apartments, & strip malls. I wouldn't suggest visiting unless you are really interested in Civil War history, "Gone with the Wind", or antebellum mansions.

• Cons:Besides that it's pretty tacky
