Trevi is on the railway line between Foligno and Spoleto. It's one of the most striking hilltop villages in Umbria and has fairly recently started to try to attract more visitors.
Unfortunately they would seem to define a visitor as others would define a motorist. There is a [much needed] bus from the station to the centre - up a mighty hill - but its time-table is geared entirely to local needs so if you plan to go there, do check carefully. You can, of course, get a taxi to the station if you prefer but the nearest firms are in Foligno so don't unless you have a spare arm and leg.
Like most Umbrian hilltop towns, Trevi's main appeal is in the layout of the streets and central buildings, in wandering along narrow lanes and generally pottering. However it does have one major attraction different from others. This is the very old wall pump organ in the church of San Francesco. If there happens to be a recital while you are there, do go to it.
You are likely to see this place if you look the opposite way to the centre from just above the square where the bus stops. If you want a short stroll, it's the obvious place to go. No doubt getting caught in a thunder storm is not to be advised but, if you do -as we did- they are very tolerant of people sitting in the covered foyer of the convent!
- Pros:Superb example of a hilltop village
- Cons:Dodgy bus connection
- In a nutshell:Terrific - but needs careful planning.
