Potidaia was a Korinthian colony. When Philipp II extended Macedonia, Potidaia was destroyed. King Kassander founded a new town at its place and named it Kassandreia. Today's Kassandreia, however, is at another place; Nea Potidaia has been built at the place of ancient Potidaia and Kassandreia.
