"Pella - ÐÝëëá" Pella by GeorgiosX

Pella was made capital of Macedonia by king Archelaos. Pella had two advantages if compared with Aegae, the older capital: It was close to the sea, and its location made it easier to conquer new land in the East.

Pella was the place where Alexander the Great was born.

When the Romans won the battle of Pydna against the Macedonians in 168 BC, Macedonia was divided into four parts. Pella became capital of the third part. The Romans built a colony next to Pella.
