Fondest Memory: On the express train from Hong Kong, I met a wonderful Beijing couple that took me and a Swedish traveling friend out for an absolutely succulent meal of Beijing duck and other Chinese delicacies. They took us out to a fantastic restaurant packed with nothing but locals that we would have never found on our own! And they were very helpful in telling us what everything was and even instructed us on the proper Chinese method of using chopsticks...! Pictured here is myself and traveling friend Par from Sweden at the restaurant. Some people think we look almost like twins... In case you're not sure, I am the more handsome guy... on the right...!

Fondest Memory: During my most recent trip to Beijing, I attended an outstanding exhibition of late Salvador Dali lithographs, watercolors and sculptures... My Portuguese traveling friend Paula, pictured here next to a soft watch sculpture, joined me for the event... Paula was a big fan of Dali, and was so thrilled to see the exhibition on her last day in Beijing...!

Favorite Thing: The association between Salvador Dali and the People's Republic of China goes back to the time of the Chinese "great proletarian cultural revolution" when Dali produced many illustrations inspired by the poems of Chairman Mao Zedong, some of which were on display at this exhibition...

Fondest Memory: This was one of two Salvador Dali exhibitions that I went to during my 2002 around the world trip... The other one was in Brugges, Belgium... Both exhibitions focused on fascinating late period works such as lithographs and illustrations... Things like a series on Boccaccio's "Decameron"... Dali is generally more famous for his stunning early works such as "Persistence of Memory" and "Metamorphosis of Narcissus" but his late period works are all equally fascinating and insightful...!

Fondest Memory: The Great Wall is truly amazing... It is situated out among the gorgeous scenery of the mountains... You cannot believe how huge it is and the way it turns and twists around... This photo illustrates the incredible steepness that it has at some places...! The two ladies pictured are scientists from the famed Mayo Clinic who were part of my tour group...

Fondest Memory: We had a fantastic traditional Chinese dinner of hot pot... This dinner features a central container of boiling hot water in which you can dip and cook slices of meat... Delicious! One of the golden rules of travel... The locals always no best where to go for great dining experiences!
