Muitas vezes penso em Leopoldo Sedar Senghor:
A precisa limpidez de Lagos onde a limpeza
É uma arte poética e uma forma de honestidade
Acorda em mim a nostalgia de um projecto
Racional limpo e poético

Os ditadores – é sabido – não olham para os mapas
Suas excursões desmesuradas fundam-se em confusões
O seu ditado vai deixando jovens corpos mortos pelos caminhos
Jovens corpos mortos ao longo das extensões

Na precisa claridade de Lagos é-me mais difícil
Aceitar o confuso o disforme a ocultação

Na nitidez de Lagos onde o visível
Tem o recorte simples e claro de um projecto
O meu amor da geometria e do concreto
Rejeita o balofo oco da degradação

Na luz de Lagos matinal e aberta
Na praça quadrada tão concisa e grega
Na brancura da cal tâo veemente e directa
O meu país se invoca e se projecta.

Fondest Memory: LAGOS II
I
Lagos onde reenventei o mundo num verão ido
Lagos onde encontrei
Uma nova forma do visível sem memória
Clara como a cal concreta como a cal
Lagos onde aprendi a viver rente
Ao instante mais nítido e recente

Lagos que digo como passado agora
Como verão ido absurdamente ausente
Quase estranho a mim e nunca tido

Foi um país que eu encontrei de frente
Desde sempre esperado e prometido
O puro dom de ter nascido
E o sol reinava em Lagos transparente

Lagos lição de lucidez e liso
Onde estar vivo se torna mais completo
- Como pode meu ser ser distraído
De sua luz de prumo e de projecto?

Ou poderemos Abril ter perdido
O dia inicial inteiro e limpo
Que habitou nosso tempo mais concreto?

Será que vamos paralelamente
Relembrar e chorar como um verão ido
O país linear e transparente

Favorite Thing: This is the map of the Center, the historical old Town, inside the Walls (the black line)

Favorite Thing: This is one door in the city walls. Inside is the old historical town, outside is the modern Lagos and the large amount of beaches around the city.

Fondest Memory: Built under kings Manuel I and João III (16th century) on former building sites, these walls surrounded the whole city. Apart from the section overlooking the sea, there are still other pieces, with defense bastions, on the inside area of the city. On one wall is the famous Manuelino-style window from where king D. Sebastião is said to have attended an open-air celebration of Mass before leaving for Alcácer-Quibir.

Favorite Thing: One old street, Lanzarote de Freitas, where is located the Youth Pousada and some bars.

Favorite Thing: Another street. The church you see is S. António, The inside of the chappel is all in golden carven wood, but the others rooms are now fonctioning as a museum, where you can see many signs of the ancient inhabitants of this region.

Fondest Memory: Built before 1707 and rebuilt in 1769, after being greatly damage by the 1755 earthquake, this church was listed as a national monument in 1924. Well worth visiting for the remarkable 18th-century blue and white glazed tiles, as well for the lovely Baroque giltwood that frames 8 paintings, supposedly by Rasquinho, an artist from Loulé. The dome boast a magnificent painting featuring, in the centre, a Portuguese coat of arms from the 18th century.

Favorite Thing: As you enter Lagos on N125 from the west, the first thing that impresses you is the clean modern whitewashed houses' with their orange tiled roofs. You proceed over the hill and on your right is a breathtaking harbor with breakwaters, pleasure boats and blue waters. You go down the hill and the town appears on your left and the activity of the harbor area increases.

If you enter Lagos from the est you will see this fountain where the water does this curious shape of a boat.

Favorite Thing: This is some pleasure boats at the modern Marina, in the est entrance of Lagos.

Favorite Thing: There are some shops all long the marina and several cafés, where is very pleasant to seat reading the newspaper, eating some almond cake of the region and enjoying the sweet sun of the morning.
