| Lisbon - Tagus river view from Lapa |
I did recently a mini cruise on the Tagus river and I took a lot of pictures of Lisbon, seen from the river. To see the photos in large dimensions take a look at this site And to see many other pictures I took around Lisbon and other places you may visit my other page Do you want to listen a typical fado by Amália Rodrigues? Lisboa Antiga (Old Lisbon) And another: Uma Casa Portuguesa (A Portuguese Home) You will love this: Coimbra And this one it is a very old fado: Fado Hilário from Coimbra students. Some songs by Zeca Afonso: Grandola, Vila Morena - The song from the 25 de Abril, portuguese revolution. Vejam_Bem Traz Outro Amigo Tambem Verdes são os campos Menino d’oiro O meu sabor é diferente. Provo-me e saibo-me a sal Não se nasce impunemente Nas praias de Portugal. (Antonio Gedeao) Something like that: My flavor is different I taste myself and feel salt, To be born it is not indifferent In the beaches of Portugal I live in Lisbon, but I was born in Lagos, a little town in Algarve with lots of sun and beaches, in the south of Portugal. I have began to do my pages about several places at the same time... all of them can change anytime. You may see also the travelogues for more pictures. Some words to think: "It takes us a lot of time to become young" (Pablo Picasso) "Those who stop a litle river to flow, are mistaken by themselves, the litle river doesn't stop to go, he will flow by other way else" better in portuguese: "Quem prende o ribeirinho que corre É por si mesmo enganado. O ribeirinho não morre, Vai correr por outro lado." (Antonio Aleixo, a popular portuguese writer) "The world is a book and those who stay at home read only one page" (St. Augustin, 354-430) "Gods helps those who help themselves" (Esopo) "Use any talent you have. If only good singing birds sing, the florests will be in silence" (Henry Van Dyke) "Never be afraid of trying new things... remember that the Noah's Ark was built by amateurs and the Tytanic was done by professionals!" "Beautiful young people are acts of nature... but beautiful old people are works of art" See Some Words of Wisdom (a beautiful page made by Leah) "Everybody should be a child, all his live. With all the information we have today, more than ever, one should play with high Mathematics instead of little cars and feel the same pleasure as if we were playing with toys". (Agostinho da Silva, a portuguese thinker) "Man moves toward geometry like flowers to the sun." (Nadir Afonso, a portuguese architect and painter) The intelligents are not so many Often, those who are violents Have theirs heads empty And are afraid of intelligents" (Antonio Aleixo, a popular portuguese writer) |
| | PHILOSOPHER'S STONE (to hear this song, click here and you will listen the original Pedra Filosofal by Manuel Freire). They do not know that the dream is a constant of life so concrete and defined as anything else, as this grey rock where I sit and rest, as this tame river in a calm fear, as these high pines that agitate in gold and green, as these birds that scream in blue inebriety. They do not know that the dream is wine, is foam, and yeast, little cheerful and thirsty animal, with sharp-pointed snout, that dig in everything in a everlasting movement. They do not know that the dream is painting, is color, is brush, base, shaft, chapiter, ogive arc, stained-glass window, cathedral pinnacle, counterpoint, symphony, Greek mask, magic, that is an alchemist retort, a map of a distant world, windrose, Infant a cinquentist caravel, that is Good Hope Cape, gold, cinnamon, ivory, foil of skilled swordsman, wings, dance step, Colombina and Harlequin, flying aerostat, lightning-rod, locomotive, boat of festive stem, melting furnace, power generator, atom division, radar, ultrasound, television, rocket landing in the lunar surface. They do not know, nor dream, that the dream commands life. That whenever a man dreams the world jumps and advances as a colored ball in a child hands (Antonio Gedeão, a portuguese poet and chemistry teacher) |

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies; Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you; Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating others could destroy overnight; Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous; Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.
-Mother Teresa |
And now a joke... Why God never received his Ph.D.
1. He had only one major publication;
2. It was in Hebrew;
3. It had no references;
4. It was not published in a refereed journal;
5. Some even doubt he wrote it himself;
6. It may be true he created the world, but what has he done
since then?
7. His co-operative efforts have been quite limited;
8. The scientific community has had a hard time replicating
his results;
9. He never applied to the Ethics Board for permision to use
human subjects;
10. When one experiment went away, he tried to cover it up by
drowning the subjects;
11. When subjects did not behave as predicted, he deleted them
from the sample;
12. He rarely came to class, just told students to read the Book;
13. Some say he had his son teach the class;
14. He expelled his first two students for learning;
15. Althought there were only ten requirements, most students
failed his tests;
16. His office hours were infrequent and usually held on a
mountain top. |
