Finally! (I'M JUST STARTING THIS, NOT DONE YET)
Ever since I was a child, I had wanted to visit two countries -- Africa and Australia. In 2001, I was finally able to see part of Africa. It was grand and wonderful and I figured I was going to die, since I had always hoped to see it before I died. And after I had seen it, I figured that must be a sign that I was going to die soon (LOL).
Of course, my paranoia was unfounded, but unfortunatey something terrible did happen. Not to me personally, but to the U.S., 9/11. And for awhile after that, traveling lost some of its allure.
Then two years ago, I couldn't take it anymore, so I told my family I was planning a trip to Australia. Now my husband is not usually a traveler, so I was surprised to hear him say he wanted to join us. Unfortunately and fortunately, though, he wanted to use his frequent flier miles. Fortunately, because it meant our trip would be a lot cheaper. Unfortunately because it meant I had to postpone our trip for a year as it is extremely hard to get tickets this way and at the time of year he wanted to go, Christmas time.
So I waited for almost a year for the tickets to become available, which you have to get a year in advance, and then waited that year for our trip. For awhile, it seemed like it would never come.
But then, yes, fantastically, finally the day came when we were able to land in a country so very similar and yet not similar to the US, a trip different than I had envisioned, but just as wonderful. And, of course, now that I'm back and have seen the two countries I hoped to see before I died, I'm paranoid about dropping dead again (LOL), but I'm sure I'll get over that in time to plan my next trip! ;O) |
