Sanibel and Surroundings in a Whirlwind Visit

by janiac - last update: May 5, 2003

The beach in front of the Inn

Shelling, Manatees and Universal

Sanibel was a wonderful place to spend Easter break. Unfortunately, I only had three full days and two travel days to enjoy it and the surrounding areas, so I wasn't really able to sit back and enjoy Sanibel itself as much as I had wanted to. Plus, we had the misfortune of arriving soon after a red tide, which apparently killed off some marine life (dead marine life in the sun will never be a Air Wick scent). But believe me, everyone we talked to -- and there were many people who told us they go to Sanibel year after year -- said they had never seen the beach like it was during our visit. And after the first two days, either we got used to it or it really did get better.
The beach is really shallow in front of the hotel. No waves to speak of at least during our vacation. My mom saw dolphins pass by one day.

I was just in Clearwater but did not get to Sanibel. It sounds like a great place though.
