  • If you go to Rio de Janeiro and don't visit the Sugar Loaf - Pao de Acucar, means you haven't seen Rio.
    Sugar Loaf still being a tourist mark in Rio. A must see activity.

    Little History about Sugar Loaf

    The history of Sugar Loaf's cable cars began in 1908 during the National Exposition commemorating the centennial of the opening of the ports. Augusto Ferreira Ramos,an engeneer, who participated at the exposition, noticed the interest of the visitors in the huge crag called Sugar Loaf. He had the idea of creating cable cars for people to admire the breath taking of the natural beauty.

    It is said that the name "Pao de Acucar" was given by the Portugueses. In the old sugar cane waherhoused when the sugar cane was squeezed and extract the juice, boiled and let to get thick, after that the bars of sugar was placed in this forms shaped as a cone called "pao de acucar" and then transported to Europa. Because of the similar shape , the "carioca" hill got the same name.

     Excellent off the beaten path tip on Rio! I also enjoyed this path around Pao a lot. Seems there are almos no tourists there. Only a handful of Cariocas. That's how I like it!

     The only word I find to describe Rio is MAGIC. I spent a glorious time there last year, and Alless was also very kind and helpful to me :) Loved to remember Rio with your pictures.
