Little History about Sugar LoafThe history of Sugar Loaf's cable cars began in 1908 during the National Exposition commemorating the centennial of the opening of the ports. Augusto Ferreira Ramos,an engeneer, who participated at the exposition, noticed the interest of the visitors in the huge crag called Sugar Loaf. He had the idea of creating cable cars for people to admire the breath taking of the natural beauty.
It is said that the name "Pao de Acucar" was given by the Portugueses. In the old sugar cane waherhoused when the sugar cane was squeezed and extract the juice, boiled and let to get thick, after that the bars of sugar was placed in this forms shaped as a cone called "pao de acucar" and then transported to Europa. Because of the similar shape , the "carioca" hill got the same name.
