Favorite Dish: what about sopas, marquesitas and elotes... I know everyone warns about not eating food from the stalls on the streets but there was a festival in Merida that Sunday and traditional fairs have always had a special charm on me, not to mention how inviting that food looked and I couldn't resist... the result was typical, yummy, good food and not a consequence after...
and in case you wanted to dare like me: sopas in Mexico are not only soups but also a kind of smaller tacos covered with a sort of meat sauce, very rich in meat...
marquesitas are unique, special crepes baked at the moment on what seems a cast iron plate, filled with typical grated cheese and rolled like a huge cigarette...
elotes are husked corn on the cob served with sour cream and cheese...
as said in my fondest memory there is then a food court in the Plaza Grande on the right side of the City Hall
and if you are looking for a bakery, go to southwest corner of the main square (on the left of the City Hall) at the Panificadora Montejo
