Morocco, one of my favourites countries to travel, I love this place, even i was only twice. The reason: lot of stories comming from my family.
Morocco and Spain have lot of history in common, we were arabic nations and kingdom several centuries ago, and Morocco still keeps his ancient enchant that means a live museum for the people from spain who love the history and the past.
The wonderful past of Spain (Andalucia), is the real-real present in Morocco.
When i was to morocco, i cross the border walking, and i had to wait one hour, the cross border is beyond Ceuta, one of The Spanish cities in africa, and i was really afraid because of the delinquency and young local mafias. I return after 20 minutes to Spain.
One day later i tried again, i did not heard the advisor form the hotel in ceuta, and i entered again, alone, early in the morning ....i took one taxi to Tanger, through Tetuan, the most spanish city in Morocco (belonged until 1950´s), and I enter after crossing forest and mountains to the herculean city in north africa, Great, it is like an african spirit city with 1.000.000 people and lot of hotel and skyscrapers.
this trip was in 1997 and i when in 2000, because I was working in South Spain and I decided to spend just a weekend in Tanger again, with a hotel of 4 stars and spend the time walking and talking with the people.
Do not forget that there are more than 200.000 illegal inmigrant from morocco in spain, and also Tanger is the gate for many south-saharian people who cross the Strait of Gibraltar every week.
ThaT IS what i found in Tanger, many black people and moroccan from all the region, inland, mountantains, casablancans, atlantic coast....
I also recomend you to visit the markets (Zoco-Soq)Small and Big ones, specially the fish ans sea food market and check how the children work there, hard and fast work.
Enjoy the Tanger beaches and visit the Theater Cervantes and the Spanish Quartier.
Also there are British, Jewish, american, Swedish and French Quartiers, thats fine.
