It has been years since I visited the town of Eureka, California. It is located on the Humboldt Bay about five hours north of San Francisco on US 101. Eureka is in the heart of California's rugged North Coast and giant Redwood tree forests. Humboldt Redwood State park is about 30 miles to the south with 40 miles of redwood beauties. About a half hour to the north begins the 300,000 acre Redwood National Park with miles of hiking trails.
I was pleased to discover that my favorite restaurant, the Samoa Cookhouse was still in business. Considering that it opened in 1893 - it shouldn't be a surprise at all. More on that below.
This area also is offers a number of unique bed and breakfast accomodations in restored Victorian houses.
