"My Wanderings through Scotland" Scotland by Paul2001

It is sort of strange at this time of my life that I decided to visit Scotland. There are plenty of other nations on my list of must-does that I could have visited but decided to put aside. Scotland became the logical choice for my big trip of 2010 for several reasons. One was the fact that the British pound dropped dramatically against the Canadian Dollar so Scotland became suddenly affordable (it is still expensive but not unreasonable). The second reason was my age. I am now in my early 50's and now see the limits of what I can and cannot do. I wanted to walk in the Scottish Highlands but I knew that it if I put this off much longer that I would not be up to the riggers of such a trip. The third reason was that.....well I like malt Scotch alot! Where else should you try so many samples than in Scotland.
I enjoyed Scotland tremendously. Never did I have a bad day. The nation secretes charm. The people are extremely pleasant. It is also very easy to travel in (although I did have one little problem I will write about in my tips)
I timed my trip to Scotland according to what I understood to be the best time of the year weatherwise. That was late May and early June. Supposedly this is when it rains least on the West Coast of Scotland. For the most part this plan worked. Scottish weather can be extremely unpredicatable. I did get some rain but it did not spoil my journey.
Over all I had a great time and I recommend anyone looking to visit a country which has much in variety to offer the hardy traveller.
- Pros:Beautiful scenery, Great Scotch!, Pleasant People
- Cons:Can be expensive. Weather can be unpredicable. Tiny hotel rooms!
- In a nutshell:A Nation That Offers Alot Of Variety
