During the opening of the Late Show starring David Letterman, the announcer proudly exclaims that New York is the "greatest city in the World". I will never argue with boast for I am in total agreement that New York is the greatest city on the globe. There is something here for everyone from the highest cultural pursuits to the simple family oriented amusements. Few cities rival New York in the quality of any of these enjoyments. New York's art museums are amongst the best in the world but it also has an amazing array of sports teams that cannot be equaled in all of North America. Personally I go to New York to experience the museums and galleries. I also enjoy the nightlife and the amazing variety of restaurants that the city offers. During my most recent trip to New York I also took in a Yankee game for the first time and it was a pure pleasure.
New York is not a city without any serious problems. The city is very expensive to live in and very congested. Until I visited Cairo, I thought that New York was the noisiest place on Earth. Now it ranks second in that department. If you let these issues stop you from coming then you will be missing out on seeing the a city that should be visited by everyone. One of the stunning aspects of New York is that it is so alive. There are people wandering about everywhere and they all seem to be enjoying themselves. With a city so full of life, I think that the people who come to New York and hate probably hate life itself.
- Pros:Superb museums. Unbeatable nightlife.
- Cons:Expensive. Congested.
- In a nutshell:The Greatest City in the World!!!!!

The closing statement on your tip about watching a movie being made - I laughed so hard, I snorted! OMGoodness, I SO did not see that coming! Thanks for the giggle!
a lot of excellent infos and great pics, thanks for sharing, Paul ! I still remember having passed by the Dakota-house a few days after J.Lennon was killed...
Very informative and fun to read tips on places that I haven't been to but hope to get to some day.
Interesting and substantial tips on the museums and Ellis Island, especially. I spent four years in New York as a college student, and loved it. Haven't been back in recent years, however.
Excellent updates, love the San Remo Apartments tip. I especially like the architecture descriptions. Paul, your work never ceases to amaze me. I think your descriptions of museums and historic sites/sights are some of the best of VT.
For this page, you've certainly chosen some of the best things to see and do in NYC, given that there is so much in the city.
New York city is fascinating - so much to see and do - I will have to return here someday if only to build a better page = my visit was all pre VT!
We enjoyed your New York pages. Glad to see that you made it to the Frick Museum. It's one of our favorites.
