Peru is one of the most exciting countries in the world to visit. As a tourist destination it offer something for just about everyone. It has wonderful historical monuments such as Machu Picchu, towering mountains which offer awesome trekking and rafting opportunities and finally the Amazon where you can view the wonderous wildlife. Peru even has beaches although they are hardly great, they do offer decent surfing.
The primary reason I decided upon an excursion through Peru was to see its many pre-Columbian archeological sites. In this regards there is more to Peru than Machu Picchu. I also wanted to visit the Andes Mountains and the Amazon Basin. As I knew in advance that to see all of these attractions would be very time consuming, I made sure that I had plenty of time to see all that I wanted to see. Therefore I took a whole month to journey through Peru. I will say right now that it was worth it. In know way did Peru disappoint. I now consider it one of the most interesting countries that I have toured so far.
Before you decide to visit Peru, I should point out that traveling throughout the country is not problem free. The main destination points are far apart. This means that you often have to take very lengthly bus trips around the country. Therefore be very patient. I also found that to get the most out of Peru, you should be reasonably physically fit. Getting to many attractions means arduous climbs up hills at altitudes of 3000m above sea level. I came across a couple of tourists who were not up to it. If these minor points do not turn you off, I think that you will find a journey to Peru will be very rewarding.
- Pros:Incredible Scenery. Brilliant historical sites. A wealth of wildlife.
- Cons:Crime can be a problem. Lengthly bustrips.
- In a nutshell:One of the World's Must-See Countries

This Larco Museum is absolutely worth to visit. As this review says, it´s an eyeopener for people that come to Peru just thinking about the Incas. There is just SO MUCH MORE, and Larco Museum is the right place to find out. Don´t miss it!!
The Colca Canyon looks awesome. An amazing demonstration of nature.
Hi. thanks for your comment...hehe, we have a similar photo of the andes in the colca canyon. It looks just great, doesn´t it?
an interesting page, excellent pics and a lot of great updates again, Paul ! Peru is still completely missing on my map :-((
Paul, these are amazing updates to your page!! The beautiful Santa Carolina monastery reminded me of the Moorish influence in Portugal in Spain. The Uros floating islands were amazing and if Lake 'Q' felt chilly to a Canuck, it must have been serious!!
Like you, I found Peru to be one of the most beautiful and fascinating countries I have ever visited. My only regret is that I wasn't able to see all there is to see.
Your comments aboout flying over the Nazca lines were spot on. I felt I had to do it but hated every minute of it. Nice Peru pages - It's a great country
Fine coverage of the archeological sites and the Andes Mountains. And the Amazon Basin. Too bad the National Geographic had to do without that bush dog photo!
Paul, this page is top notch and more than star worthy. Great museums. The Nasca Lines info was so fascinating. Huascoran Nat. Park looks fantastic. Arequipa sounds wonderful. Reserved zone was enticing. Superior writing and terrifc photos. Bravo!
Well-written tips :o) Peru is on my wish list, and I never thought to visit the Amazon from there as well. Very nice page ~ Helen
