I found Amsterdam to be, of all the cities that I have visited in Europe, my first choice as a city to habitat in. This is a city that seems to have everything. Great shopping, superb nightlife, and fantastic museums. It even has the best English speaking bookstore I have found so far in Continental Europe, "The American Book Center". Okay the weather is crappy but you really cannot have quite everything. When I toured Amsterdam, it did not rain a drop and the tempurature was from 20C to 23C the whole time I was there.
It is a city that should offer few problems to tourists. Well finding a hotel room was a problem for me, it is an easy city to visit because of it's great transportation system and for the fact that most of the important sites are within easy walking distance from each other. I find myself truely looking foreward to another opportunity to visit this fascinating city.
- Pros:Great museums, shops, nightlife.
- Cons:Sometimes the weather is rather foul.
- In a nutshell:The most immediately appealing city in Europe

Paul, fabulous page with brilliant photos of Amsterdam. It is great that you took the chance to see a match of Ajax. Well done. Can you believe that I have never been to Amsterdam, although it is only about 350 km from here.
Paul, I enjoyed your photos of Rembrandt's house. Would you mind if I used them in my Art Appreciation class? Sharon
I haven't been to Amsterdam yet but your tips here show there is a lot to see & do
Amsterdam is certainly an interesting city. It's about time to go back and revisit.
Enjoyed your Amsterdam pages, and your pages in general. Thanks, Rob
You are right.. I love the The American Book Center. Being in Netherland for months I ran out of books to read. This is the place I usually go to buy my books. Great page and pictures.
I connect with this city - you would have enjoyed the SAIL festival that held there last year - unfortunately far too many crowds for my liking
I assume everyone who went to Rembrandthuis is interested in the artist. A DVD about his life has just been published by Warner Video. I'm the English narrator.
yes Amsterdam is a wonderful City, very good read and fine photos
Fine travelogue and tips. I particularly like your descriptions of the museums. I agree about the bicycle helmets. I always wear one when I'm cycling, and think it would be foolish not to.
