I did not really look foreward to visiting Athens as I had heard so many negative things about it. I have been told that Athens is congested, polluted and on a whole rather ugly. Well these points might be all be true in some ways, it is still full of wonderful things to see such as the stupendous archeological sites and it's great museums. Furthermore there is an abundance of great restaurants and affordable hotels. In my mind to go to Greece and to skip Athens is like going to France and not seeing Paris. |

Brings back memories of some time I spent in Athens in the 1960s and 70s. I had also heard negative things about Athens, but was pleasantly surprised by many parts. And yes, the Acropolis really does live up to expectations, at least it did back then. | scottishvisitor Wed Dec 19, 2007 22:00 UTC

Wonderful page on Athens Paul. Hans and I thoroughly enjoyed the Acropolis. My only disappointment was that it was being renovated (again) & there was a crane & scaffolding all over it. Loved the Plaka! |
