Meteora is a series of six monasteries built 14th century on high rock outcrops that could be easily defended against invaders. The monasteries are all picturesquely located and the scenery amongst the mountains is beautiful. I stayed in a hotel very close to main road to Meteora so I could get out first thing in the in the morning before the crowds arrived. I was a cool morning which considering the Greek sun was a relief. I decided to walk to all of the monasteries. I though that this was and excellent way of seeing the scenery along the way. I did get a lift by car driven by a friendly Italian couple to one of the monasteries towards the end of my day. |
