Another hazy and polluted day in Delhi - India

Another hazy and polluted day in Delhi

Pollution

Yet another problem with India. It's large cities are very polluted. I remember getting off the plane in Delhi and smelling the stink of the city as soon as the door of the plane opened. I have recently read that Delhi is the most polluted city in the world. If you have any breathing difficulties then I think that you should get out of the city as soon as you can.

Train in India. Ladies should be carefull! - India

Train in India. Ladies should be carefull!

The Personal Safety of Women Travelling on Trains

I met two Canadian women who each complained of being molested on Indian trains. Each woman was travelling with another female companion and were not alone. Obviously women unaccompanied by a man can expect some difficulties travelling on Indian trains. Make sure that when you are travelling, that the windows are closed and that you feel comfortable with the others in your compartment.

Bats in the Ellora Caves - India

Bats in the Ellora Caves

Watch out for Bats

A word of warning, India is bat country. Every ruin you visit will be full of bats hanging overhead. Of course they are relatively small and harmless but FOR GOD'S SAKE, KEEP THOSE BLOODY BATS AWAY FROM ME!!!! Well I am not the fearless, intrepid traveler that I sometimes like to pretend to be. You see I am afraid of bats. There, I admitted it. Now for the real poop on bats, I should warn you that they can carry rabies. I even heard of one chap who was looking up at bats overhead and had a bat relieve itself in eye. He had to get rabies shots. So watch out.

A very crowded bus in India - India

A very crowded bus in India

The Adventures of Bus Travel in India

Buses in India can be very dangerous. I had one fellow try to through himself off a moving bus in a suicide attempt. I saw another bus flip into a ditch near Khajuraho. Outside of Pushkar the steering wheel fell off of another bus that I was on. One couple I met actually had the whole windowshield fall off the front of their bus. I am not making all of this up. If you can afford to do so, rent a car and driver. Then again I almost had a terrific accident in a car. Road travel in general is very adventurous.
