In many ways Italy is my favourite country that I have traveled to. Visiting Italy was a pure joy. The sites are everything that you hope them to be. In otherwords they are spectacular. It has dazzling art. Great hiking. The people are friendly and helpful. Furthermore the food is great. To this day the finest meals that I have ever been served were in Italy. This is especially the case in Rome. Also I would like to add that traveling through Italy was, for me anyway, relatively hassle free. I expected that the trains would be late, however this rarely occured.
I think so highly of my visit to Italy that it has been my number one recommendation for the country in Europe if you would like to visit just one. This is because Italy offers the best of everything in Europe.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Great eye candy. Great food.
Cons:Indifferent nightlife.
In a nutshell:The place to head to if you want to see the best of Europe

Happy Birthday, Paul! I enjoyed reading your enthusiastic & knowledgeable tips on museums and hiking in Italy. I was recently in Italy myself and have posted two new pages (Cremona and Busseto). Also working on a Milan page but that will take some time.

So Italy or Germany if you had one European country to visit? You've done well with both pages. 100% Italy for me, though I do miss living in the Rhinegau and it's castles. I'd guess the same answer for you with your interests in art culture, archeology..

Exquisite page! Browsing through brought back my lovely memories from all those places! Especially Siena... a real gem, and my most favourite town in Italy! And then, Val d'Aosta, my second favourite place...
